Legal jargon
Come to the mediator or lawyer with a good understanding of what these legal terms mean.
Schedules
Visit Splitopia to learn some great coparenting tips.
Coming up with a schedule can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and in the end there are a few templates that work for most families. We want to help you design your schedule before, or in tandem with, engaging with lawyers who can cost $200-$700/hr. Imagine the comfort of knowing the money can go toward your college fund, and you can spend this time developing new coparenting skills with the other parent rather than battling in court.
Child support
Child support is usually a separate part of the court case, and in many ways is determined by basic calculations — it’s not like alimony in that the %ages are pretty standard. I also want to highlight that many parents will fight for join custody 50/50 to avoid the additional child support costs. Remember, this money is going to your children, for their education and wellbeing. It’s better to pay another parent than a lawyer, at least that’s what I think.
