Coparenting with care

There are millions of books on parenting, and what’s the difference between parenting and coparenting anyway? These stories and resources are for parents who are considering separating, are in the process of separating, or already on their journey into coparenting. The goal is to raise happy, well-adjusted children.

Defining custody after a split is an incredible battle that can leave us feeling raw and wrecked. And while divorce is common, 50%-ish, the process is fraught and yet lawyers and court seems like the only way. My experience, going to trial after a failure to mediate, was an experience I’d never wish upon my friends. So, I want to share my experiences to help others find a less ugly and terrible path. Nine years into this, I have the hindsight I wish I had in 2011.

Custody stuff

Finding a schedule for your children can feel impossible. But it’s not, there’s a template. Many of us wind up with a similar schedules, after hemorrhaging thousands of dollars on lawyers. I’d like to share my template, and what I learned in the process. I’ll also dig into resources from the top family lawyers, and provides some resources that might help you come to a schedule without draining your bank account and inflicting more scathing wounds on your ex… soon to be coparenting ally.

Note: I’m a bit slow at delivering on this, but I promise to continue to work on it. If you’re looking for something specific, please reach out to molly@coparenting.app. My goal it gather the best advice and guidelines from professionals and public institutions across the world.

Is this site for me?

If emotional and logistical challenges of coparenting begin to paralyze you, who do you turn to? Are you looking for someone who has been through this process before and come out a better parent in spite of the anger and heartache?  I want to help provide a space for people to realize they’re not alone. Custody settlements are a common procedure, and from what I’ve read, are quite similar. So why does it have to be so hard! I want to provide a place for us to figure out the complexities of coparenting together.

A bit about the author

I’m not a lawyer or a psychologist. And I don’t pretend to be. I’m simply someone who has been through this experience and have coached others who have gone through it. The stories and resources are not a replacement for your professional consul. But they may provide a stronger foundation, and prepare you for mediation and communicating with your co-parent.
